Another mix, just testing out some new things. Forgot to note down the track listing AGAIN… so I will slap myself on the wrist and remember for next time. Promise.

I just saw this. Not really sure what to make of it. At first I thought I was a Star Wars Walker made to look like a Storm Trooper but it is in fact much stranger. It is a My Little Pony that has been dressed as a Storm Trooper. It even has a tail!

I don’t ask this normally but this time I have to… why?
I was just reading through my RSS feeds and playing around with my new phone when I read one about Gmail 2 for mobile being released. I watched the video (which is embedded below) and wondered if the application was only available for smart phones as it mentions the Nokia N95 in this blog post. To my surprise it works on J2ME-supported phones. So basically every new phone for the past 2 years, and seeing as how mine is brand spanking new I thought I would see what it was like.
To get the application go to m.google.com/mail on your mobile web browser and click the link to install, save it to your applications folder and then run it. Its about 65kb so shouldn’t cost you anything if you don’t have additional data bundles with your network operator as typically they offer 1MB/month free.

The application works fantastically with a smooth scrolling action no dounbt designed with touch screen devices in mind. It manages to pack in most of the Gmail features you find on their main website including the option to manage multiple accounts, just Gmail ones though.
It even allows you to view attachments, I tested it with a .pdf from a recent email and it showed me all the content, even though it was just in text form this is pretty useful. I don’t know what other filetypes are supported or how images will be displayed.
The other cool thing is that it allows you to compose messages offline and then send them all at once. So you don’t have to be constantly connected to the internet to use all of the application. It is self contained ofline and only connects when it is necessary.
Now if you read this blog you will know I like to post quirky things like USB thumb drives in weird and wonderful shapes and designs such as the headless teddy bear. This is taking things a little bit far if I’m honest. I’m not sure where the inspiration for this has come from and nor do I want to, all I know is that if I was a kid this would freak me the hell out.

esterday I received my new phone – the Sony Ericsson C905 Cybershot. Here are my thoughts after a day of use.
I love it. I really do. People were saying that the phone would be ungainly because it has an 8.1 megapixel camera on board but in fact it is only a few millimeters thicker than the phone I was upgrading from – the Sony Ericsson K810i.
It’s my first slider phone so I have no experience with consistent slider usage but the motion seems solid. The only problem with the slider is that is doesn’t slide the keypad out far enough so there is very little space between the main phone and the first row of keys leading to pressing the ‘1′ and ‘4′ keys at the same time but I have no doubt I will get use to it.
The features list is quite extensive even though it isn’t a smartphone.
- 8.1 MP Camera
- Xenon Flash
- AF Assist Light (Which doubles as a torch when recording video in low light)
- Face Detection
- WI-FI
- GPS (Real not pseudo)
- HSDPA
- 3G
- GPRS
- WAP
- Accellerometer
- M2 Memory Card Slot (2GB Supplied)
The most important change in this phone for me is the inclusion of a ‘D-pad’ instead of the dreaded joystick that Sony Ericsson seem so fond of. They seem to randomly include either so I am glad this phone has been chosen for the ‘D-pad’.
All in all I am very impressed with the amount of technology that has been packed into this phone considering that 18 months ago my previous phone was the pinnacle of mobile camera technology. Imagine what will be available in another 18 months. Samsung have already hinted at a 12MP camera phone in 2009 that occupies less space than their existing 8MP sensor.
Here are some pictures taken from my window. The first with my old Sony Ericsson K810i and the second with my new Sony Ericsson C905. Click to see the full size images.

The presentation board and accompanying proposal document was finished today and though I’d share them with you. Click the image to view the larger version.

Here is the link to the .pdf design proposal.
They are only a concept at this stage and the materials need to be worked out but hopefully you can get an idea of what the project is about. The link to the official RSA page about the project is here.
I have just come up with some questrions to try and help me find out the online usage and help me with my dissertation.
If you would like to help me out and fill it out, it’s just 10 questions and the link is below.
